Redesigned Hand Grip Has Multiple Benefits

3D Prototype Assists in Design Stage

A leading manufacturer in the lawn and garden industry had a great pet care product that included a hand grip. The item had been produced for many years, but due to changes in the market, the manufacturer was forced to redesign this product and take a look at the grip specifically. To meet customer expectations, they would need to change both the design and material of the grip. They turned to GripWorks, their grip supplier, for assistance in developing an economical solution.

During the design phase of the project, Gripworks, along with input from the manufacturer, developed a list of requirements to meet their customers’ expectations. The new grips would need to be flexible and durable, have a textured finish for enhanced feel, and incorporate a hanging feature for the end user. All while being cost effective. Armed with this information, Gripworks’ engineering team designed a new grip and produced a prototype part using in house 3D printing. That prototype grip allowed the manufacturer to suggest a few minor changes that lead to a final product design.

The new grip, a textured hanger grip, is produced with a TPE – Thermoplastic elastomer material in an injection molding process. The manufacturer is thrilled with the new grip and has rolled out their product to many retail outlets. Throughout this project Gripworks’ team made sure to understand the manufacturer’s needs and wants in developing a product that exceeded expectations.
